WTC 2024 Committee

Wicklow Tri Club Coaches:

The club encourages its members to take on coaching courses and qualifications to become part of the coaching team.

Our coaches are:

Bike Lead: John Darcy

Triathlon Ireland Level 2 Coach

John’s first passion was cycling. He competed in the Tour of Ireland in 1978 and 1979, and competed in the Rás Tailteann from 1983-1987. He competed in the first All Ireland Triathlon in 1983 in Greystones, coming third. He carried on competing in the All Ireland Triathlon for the rest of the 80’s, always finishing in the top 10. This was a Half-Ironman distance race with the first prize being entry to Ironman Hawaii. John returned to triathlon in 2005 when he joined Wicklow Triathlon Club. John works with the Junior Academy and WicklowTri. He really enjoys helping people achieve their full potential and tries to be encouraging and motivating to all levels.

Swim Coach: John Doyle

John is a qualified Swim teacher, and has been a member of WTC for a number of years. A senior club member with a number of races under his belt including Ironman Lanzarote, John works to improve WTC members swimming through a myriad of different training sessions and routines, in the pool and in the open water.

Swim Coach: Fiona Crean

Swim Ireland Level 1 Coach, Swim Ireland Level 2 Coach, Level 3 Aquatic Tutor (STA), Level 2 Aquabatics Instructor (STA), RLSS Lifeguard and Trainer/Assessor

Fiona has been involved in Triathlon for many years. She started cycling with Bray Wheelers Cycling Club focusing on club racing. In 2006 she qualified and raced in the Ras na mBan. Fiona joined Wicklow Triathlon Club in 2013 and has completed a number of races and challenges, including the infamous Outlaw full distance ironman. Fiona started teaching swimming in Kilternan and loves teaching all levels and abilities. She believes swimming should be relaxing and enjoyable for everyone and is happy to prove it. Her students love her (not during the actual swim class!) and all attribute their ability to swim well to her coaching!

Swim Coach: Conor Fitzgerald

Triathlon Ireland Level 1 Coach, Swim Ireland Level 1 Coach

Conor has been involved in triathlon since 2009. Having competed in all distances, Sprint, Olympic, ½ and full Ironman, Conor understands how athletes need to train, along with the pressures of family, work friends etc. As a teenager Conor was a competitive swimmer, lifeguard, and instructor, so it was a natural progression that he would come back to work within swimming again. In 2011 Conor qualified as a swim coach with Swim Ireland, and in 2013, with Triathlon Ireland.  Having been involved with Wicklow Triathlon Club, Senior and Junior clubs, as a swim coach.  Conor has also been an integral part of the Triathlon Ireland Junior Academy, as one of their original elite coaches, in the Leinster area. Currently the Number 1, undefeated Triathlon champion at all distances, in his own house, although, with 3 young children, not sure how long his reign will last. Having been an assistant race director for The Beast, and Race Director for the Aquathon series, Conor is an integral part of Wicklow Triathlon Club.

Swim Coach: Corinna Nolan

Level 1&2 Swim Teacher (Swim Ireland),  Level 1&2 coaches (Swim Ireland), Rlss lifeguard, T/A Rlss instructor

Corinna has always loved swimming in spite of a childhood hatred of water in her eyes and a hatred of water in her ears that has lasted to present day. She was signed up to lifesaving by her mum at 12 years old and got her first lifeguarding job in Arklow outdoor pool for a summer. Through 5th year in secondary school she got her assistant swim teacher cert and began teaching in Kilternan, then progressed to full teacher certs. Swim teaching has always been fer favourite job as it’s so rewarding. She has been coaching for 5 years including spending some time teaching in Australia, which was a wonderful experience. Her first triathlon was TriAthy Olympic distance and having breezed through the 1500m swim, realised that she’d have to run 10km at the end of the cycle. Her longest swim to date was last year’s Warrior of the Sea 6km (in skins, dodging jellyfish). Corinna is not a fan of wetsuits and would much rather swim in skins. Her top tip for swimming is to relax and enjoy it, not to try to get everything right at once. Pick something, work on it for a length or 2, then forget about it and swim on.
